A Maldives court issued an arrest warrant on Thursday for former President Mohamed Nasheed, a day after his supporters rampaged in the capital and his claim of being ousted by a coup left unclear the stability of the fledging Indian Ocean democracy.
Pak SC turns down Gilani's appeal against indictment
In a major blow to beleaguered Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, the Supreme Court on Friday rejected his appeal, asking him to appear before it on 13th February to frame of contempt charges for not reopening graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
Sarkozy advises against military strike on Iran 
President Nicolas Sarkozy put his reputation as a stalwart friend of Israel on the line, warning that military action was no way to deal with nuclear- minded Iran at a dinner hosted by France's main Jewish group and his likely presidential election rival in the audience.

Israel general strike enters second day 
Half a million Israeli public and private sector workers were on general strike for a second day on Thursday, but media reported signs of an emerging agreement between unions and government.
24 dead in latest blitz on Syria's Homs: activists 
At least 24 people were killed on Thursday in the latest government blitz on the besieged Syrian city of Homs, activists said, adding that some of the victims were burned beyond recognition.
